A good friend of mine, took me to see the mute swans on Murrell Road in Viera, Florida. It was part of celebrating my birthday. They were still building the nest when we first observed them. About three weeks later, the eggs hatched. Six cygnets quickly took to the water as a crowd of onlookers, including myself, eagerly watched. They seemed surprising large and agile, each slightly different in coloration. The parents majestically brought them close to all of us as if they were proudly showing them off.

It all seemed as if it was one of those good omens in my life. My long terrible siege of a multiple sclerosis flareup has been incredibly difficult. Just after the swans hatched, I finally began medication. It had been quite difficult to get treatment. It isn't a cure. It continues to be a bumpy ride, but I am generally feeling improved. My doctors have warned me to avoid stress. This was such a peaceful scene of family harmony that it soothed me tremendously.

Although born in upstate New York, I grew up mostly in Nevada and California. The fabulous panoramic views of the far west inspired me to begin painting and photographing it’s beauty. I’ve lived in various areas in the states and in Europe but always had the desire to express through painting and photography. While living in the Mediterranean, I was especially influenced by the great Renaissance art and the chiaroscuro work of Caravaggio. I began with oils, worked with a wide variety of mediums but now mostly work in acrylic, oils, and photography.
